Triple-Negative Breast Cancer
Welcome to our resources page dedicated to Clinical Care Options LLC's medical education program, Smarter. Stronger. Together: Optimizing Personalized Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Care for Providers and Patients , members of the Smart Patients breast cancer communities were asked via an online patient survey about their preferences for quality of life when facing treatment choices.
As part of our commitment to supporting this program, we have collected valuable insights from members of the Smart Patients breast cancer community about the challenges and unmet needs they face during treatment for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). By sharing these perspectives, we can empower patients and healthcare providers to work collaboratively to improve TNBC patients' management.
Patient Survey Results
To better understand patients’ preferences regarding TNBC treatment selection, factors influencing their decision-making, and challenges that may impact their access to care, an online survey was conducted in partnership with Smart Patients, an online community for patients and their caregivers. In total, 110 patients with breast cancer responded to the online survey.
Here are some of the findings:
It is not surprising that a significant majority of TNBC patients, more than 90%, express a strong desire to minimize the risk of disease recurrence. TNBC is an aggressive form of breast cancer that presents treatment challenges, and determining the most appropriate course of action can be complex and involve weighing various risks and benefits.
In this context, shared decision-making can be a particularly effective strategy to improve outcomes. By working collaboratively with healthcare providers, patients can make informed decisions aligned with their values, preferences, and goals. Through shared decision-making, patients can take an active role in their care, leading to more personalized and effective treatment plans that reduce the risk of TNBC recurrence.
Incorporating biomarker testing into treatment decision-making for TNBC is crucial to ensure patients receive personalized and effective care. It can help to improve outcomes by guiding the selection of treatments that are most likely to be effective while avoiding those that are unlikely to be beneficial, ultimately leading to better outcomes and a higher quality of life for TNBC patients.
