Equitable Healthcare Experience

Welcome to "Smarter. Stronger. Together. Optimizing Outcomes and an Equitable Healthcare Experience for All Patients With Gynecologic Cancers" educational program in partnership with Clinical Care Options.

As part of the program, we worked with Dr. Ebony Hoskins, a highly accomplished board-certified gynecologic oncologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. In this video, she addresses the disparities in care for gynecological patients, shedding light on this important issue. She shares her approach to providing equitable care to all her patients, highlighting the significance of transparency and trust in the patient-provider relationship. We hope that Dr. Hoskins' expertise and valuable insights will serve as a valuable resource for those seeking gynecological oncology care.

This educational program also gathered valuable insights from Smart Patients' ovarian, endometrial, and cervical cancer community members. Their experiences shed light on important topics, including patients' preparedness when discussing their care with healthcare providers, the significance of personalized biomarker testing for specific gynecologic tumor types, factors influencing treatment decisions, and patients' confidence in working alongside their healthcare providers to improve clinical outcomes. These findings underscore the immense value of informed communication and collaboration between patients and providers in delivering the highest quality gynecologic cancer care.

33% of non-white patients indicated that they had no discussion of BRCA testing at the time of their diagnosis compared with 11% of white patients.
